10 Habits To Stay Organized...

1. Write things down. Organize your to-do lists

  • Things to do today
  • Things to do this week
  • Things to do this year

2. Keep an electronic calendar of recurring things you need to remember such as family anniversaries. Set up a reminder notification to alert you 2 weeks in advance to allow you time to purchase a card and gift.

3. Do not take on more than what you can do. Say no when you can not do something. Delegate what you can not accomplish if you are not able to take it off your to-do list.

4. Declutter your area daily. Take 5-10 minutes everyday to throw things out and organize.

5. Get rid of things you do not need. If you can not read something within a week get rid of it.

6. Resist buying things that do not have at least 2 uses. This reduces the amount of 'things' you accumulate. The less things you have the easier it becomes to stay organized.

7. Do not have a 'junk drawer'. Having a junk drawer encourages keeping things you do not use. Instead, organize what you need into places to keep things. For example, if it is office supplies in your drawer, have a caddy either on your desk or in your desk drawer. If it does not fit in your caddy get rid of it.

8. Declutter your pocketbook, briefcase or computer case - review what you 'actually used' during the course of the week in your bag. Whatever you do not use daily or at least weekly take it out.

9. Only keep things in your car that you need for that day or that week. Your car is not a mobile extension of your home. Clean your car of everything upon coming home in the evening. If you do need certain things for an emergency have a plastic bin in the trunk. Example, a salesperson would need product catalogs, promotional items to share, etc. Find a portable storage bin for the things you need. Clean it out regularly.

10. Bags (pocketbooks, briefcases or computer cases). If you like big bags and want to stay organized, have smaller things to put your miscellaneous things in such as makeup.
